NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON YOGA AND HEALTH CARE: THE EMERGING TRENDS (13th and 14th March 2007)

Yoga has emerged internationally as a major area of interdisciplinary research over the last two decades. In India several leading Yoga Institutes/ Universities / Colleges are actively engaged in research work related to Yoga Education and Therapy. Need was being felt for a forum where active researchers in this area can meet periodically - to report new experiments and theoretical developments, to examine hypotheses to explain physical phenomena and to discuss common problems faced by people working in this field. The present programme is also aimed to provide a platform for such people.

The National Conference will focus on the health care aspects of Yoga. This will provide a forum for discussing and deliberating various issues related to Yoga and Health care by eminent experts working in the field of Yoga and allied sciences. Experts will throw a light on emerging trends of Yoga and health care and plan new strategies for effective implementation of Yoga in the health care system.

The Sub-topics of the Conference are:

1. YOGA FOR RESPIRATORY DISORDERS:
The discussion will focus on important Respiratory disorders which are manageable with Yoga Therapy.
a. Upper Respiratory Tract Disorders
b. Bronchial Asthma and Bronchitis
c. Tuberculosis
d. Coronary Heart Diseases

2. YOGA FOR GASTRO-INTESTINAL TRACT (GIT) DISORDERS:
This will focus on Yoga for common diseases of the GI tract like
a. Constipation, Dyspepsia and Piles
b. Peptic Ulcer
c. Irritable Bowel Syndrome

3. YOGA FOR METABOLIC DISORDERS:
This subtopic will mainly deal with
a. Diabetes - its physiology and pathology
b. Diabetes, its complications and management through Yoga Therapy
c. Obesity - its physiology and pathology
d. Obesity, its complications and management through Yoga Therapy

4. YOGA FOR MENTAL HEALTH:
This topic will deal with the common areas of Mental Health like
a. Yoga for Mental Health
b. Yoga for Stress Management
c. Yoga Therapy for Psychiatric and Neurological Disorders
d. Yoga for Personality Development

5. ROLE OF DIET AND NUTRITION IN PREVENTIVE HEALTH CARE:
This topic will deliberate on Yogic concepts of diet and its impact on various health problems as well as personality and behavior.
a. Yogic concept of Diet
b. Role of Diet and Nutrition in preventive health care
c. Yogic Diet for Behavior modification
d. Role of Yogic Diet in Stress Management

CALL FOR PAPERS
The Experts and Professionals interested to present research paper(s) in the Conference are requested to send the abstract (of one page typed or neatly handwritten) of their paper(s) by 15th February 2007. The papers may be sent through email to mdniy@yahoo.co.in in MS Word format. (For detailed guidelines please visit our website). The final paper(s) should reach the Organizers by 28th February 2007. The Scientific Committee of the National Yoga Week will scrutinize the paper(s) and select them for presentation. The approved papers may also find place in the Souvenir and Proceedings.

The decision of the Scientific Committee will be final in every respect. The time allotted for selected paper(s) for presentation will be maximum 15 minutes. The presenting author (speaker) should be a registered delegate for Conference/ Yoga Week.

Plenary Sessions
Distinguished eminent Yoga Professionals, Researchers, and Policy makers will be invited for plenary session during the Conference. The Plenary session will also serve as 'bridging session' to enhance the dialogue among all Conference delegates and provide the opportunity to share knowledge and experience.

Invited Speaker Sessions
Invited Speakers will present the 'keynote address' under specific tracks. The keynote address will deal with issues pertaining to sub-tracks within the main track.

Oral Sessions
Abstracts submitted would be reviewed and selected by track-specific technical committees. Each presentation would be followed by discussion. Questions from the audience will be encouraged and facilitated by the session chair.

Awards for Best Paper Presentation
To encourage the Young Yoga Professionals and Researchers a Free paper presentation session will be held in the Conference. Best three papers presented in the Conference will be awarded with Certificate of merit and cash prize of Rs.2,500/-, 1,500/-, 1,000/- respectively. The research paper shall be Ist presentation, must be in proper format. The Scientific Committee's decision in this regard will be the final.
