It gives me immense pleasure to invite you to the National Yoga Week - 2007 to be held at Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), New Delhi from 12-16 March, 2007. Yoga is the ancient art of healthy living, based on an extremely subtle science of the body, vital energy, mind, intellect and soul. Although Yoga is essentially a spiritual science, its prolonged practice leads to a sense of physical, mental and emotional well-being. Today Yoga is popular world-wide, because of its therapeutic credentials and also of spiritual values. Several clinical studies have lucidly demonstrated the therapeutic potential of Yoga in the treatment of many life style or psycho-somatic disorders. The speciality of this system is that it can get along with any other systems of health care. Yoga is now attracting much attention for the treatment of diseases for which there is no effective treatment in modern medicine, such as metabolic and degenerative disorders. With the growing demand for Yoga all over the globe, it has become essential to standardize the system, curriculums, develop appropriate methods of treatment and to produce skilled and qualified professionals in the field of Yoga to cater to the needs of the society. Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga was established to act as a centre of excellence in the field of Yoga, to develop, promote and propagate the science and art of Yoga. As the world moves on in the era of globalization, the Institute is positioned to lead towards health care and socio-spiritual up-liftment of people with educational programmes and technology based on research. Therefore, it is felt essential to provide a common platform at National level for experts in the field to share their knowledge and experience. The National Yoga Week is going to be an annual feature of MDNIY activities with the agenda to take stock of the existing and on-going research in the country and to stimulate new thinking. It is expected that this programme would stand to gain from the collective knowledge and innovative ideas that will emerge from the deliberations during the Yoga Week. On behalf of the General Body, Governing Council, Standing Finance Committee, Staff and Students of MDNIY, I invite you to the National Yoga - DR. ISHWAR V. BASAVARADDI |
